The Cougars used a combination of timely hitting and dominant pitching to run roughshod over Appolo Conference member Newton 8-1 on Thursday at Lions Field.

Tanner Bushue chalked up his fourth win of the season as he allowed just one unearned run on two hits in a complete-game performance. As usual, his stuff was pretty nasty as he struck out 15 Eagle hitters to go with one walk, making this the second outing in a row that he has accomplished those numbers.

Bushue also did his part with the bat as he cracked a long two-run homer to center in the second that landed well up into the trees to double their 2-run lead to 4-0.

Also with big days at the plate were Ian King with a pair of singles, a double, and 1 RBI, Tyler Gillett with two singles and 2 RBI's, and Shane Donoho with a single, a sac fly, and 2 RBI's.

The Cougars are back in action on Friday when they travel to Salem to play a make-up game from yesterday's rainout at 4:30 PM.
